Ingredients
WATER
We may go ahead and say that water may be THE number one most important liquid on this Earth – not that we are big into exaggerating! Being composed mostly of water, we humans need to drink water to survive. Your body is approximately 60 percent water, your brain is 70 percent water, and your lungs are nearly 90 percent water. Each day, your body must replace 2.4 liters -- or about 2.5 quarts of water -- through either liquid or foods. Your body uses water in many ways. Water cushions and lubricates joints; nourishes and protects the brain, spinal cord and other tissues; keeps the body's temperature normal; and helps remove waste through perspiration, bowel movements and urination.
COCONUTS
If we had to choose one desert island food item, it would be coconuts! Which is kind of useful as they’d probably be on the island already!
Coconuts are the fruits of a coconut palm tree and are highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. They contain medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs), which are converted in the body into a highly beneficial compound called monolaurin, an antiviral and antibacterial that destroys a wide variety of disease causing organisms. It is therefore now thought that consumption of coconut milk may help protect the body from infections and viruses.
MCFAs are rapidly metabolised into energy in the liver. It is thought that unlike other saturated fats, MCFAs are used up more quickly by the body and are less likely to be stored as fat. This does not exempt them from contributing to heart disease - they are still a fat - but they have a different effect than saturated fats.
They are lactose free and suitable for vegans and vegetarians
DATES
Dates are the fruits of a date palm tree. They are rich in soluble fibre which prevents cholesterol, contains the right sugars to replenish energy levels, are high in iron which is needed for blood to carry oxygen throughout that body, high in antioxidants, beta-carotene, and source of potassium – a pretty awesome all rounder then! How better to satiate a sweet craving than with this natural gift from Mother Nature.
CACAO
You say potaito, I say potato… Contrary to some articles you may see, cacao and cocoa are one and the same. Kind of like Clark Kent and Superman which leads us perfectly onto what cacao is, which is a superfood! We know, this term has been branded about the place a lot these days but cacao really is a hero. The cacao beans are harvested off a Cacao Tree and once picked, pummeled and dried, it becomes a powder. We use it in our drinks in its most purest and simplest form. It is a concentrated source of polyphenols which are a type of antioxidants which can protect us from the damaging effects of free radicals that are the cause of cells as aging and multiplying the wrong way to form degenerative diseases.
Studies have also indicated cacao improves vascular health, both for the heart and brain.
One may even want to go as far as saying a cacao portion a day…keeps the doctor away…
