Tumeric soda is one of the most amazing things in the world, especially blooming good in the summer when it's getting hot.
So what is a turmeric Bug?
A turmeric bug is a live starter culture similar to a ginger beer plant used to ferment sweetened beverages. Nothing to do with bugs/insects! It’s the starter culture for making naturally fermented pro-biotic drinks or healthy bubbly pro-biotic sodas. A turmeric bug is a colony of Saccharomyces florentinus and Lactobacillus hilgardii.
The Turmeric Bug starter kit includes:
1x 32oz Glass jar to grow and store your starter in with a brewing cloth and screw lid.
1x5L BPA free plastic bucket to mix your drink in
2 X 1500ml PET Plastic storage bottles (with plastic screw caps)
1xWooden spoon/spatula
1x Turmeric bug starter Paste
A turmeric bug makes a fizzy tarte and crisp fermented beverage.
When you mix sugar, water and turmeric, natural fermentation occurs. The lactic acid bacteria and yeasts in the turmeric root eat the sugar and make carbon dioxide and ethanol. (Just like kombucha and water kefir). Making Turmeric Soda from your Organic Turmeric Plant is fun for all the family and the fermented drink is a great alternative to fizzy soda drinks.
