Make your own fresh tempeh at home with our tempeh starter culture. Each 10g sachet contains active Rhizopus spores, enough for 2 to 3 batches (about 2 to 3kg of tempeh). Gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan, made from GMO-free ingredients.
Works with soybeans, or soy-free beans such as chickpeas and black beans
Ready in 24 to 48 hours at about 30°C, no special equipment needed

Tempeh Culture
Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian food made from fermented whole beans, with a firm, meaty bite and a nutty, mushroomy flavour. Use it in stir-fries, curries, salads, sandwiches, tacos and ramen.
Our tempeh starter culture contains high numbers of active Rhizopus spores and is free of pathogenic bacteria, such as salmonella.
Storage: keep it sealed and dry. It lasts about 6 months, and longer if kept chilled in the fridge.

Jars, bottles and equipment: wash in hot soapy water and rinse well before use. Never use bleach, as it can harm your culture.

Everything is packed fresh to order and sent within 1 to 7 working days (Monday to Thursday) by Royal Mail tracked delivery. Free standard tracked delivery on UK orders over £65: just choose it at checkout. We currently deliver to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only. Delivery information
Changed your mind? Most items can be returned within 14 days. Live cultures, food and drink, and opened health or hygiene items can't be returned for a change of mind, but if anything arrives faulty or damaged, we'll put it right. Returns and refunds
