Not all SCOBYs grow into perfect circles — and that’s absolutely fine. These are our organically grown kombucha SCOBYs that happen to be a little wonky, lopsided, or otherwise non-round. They’re identical in every way that matters: same culture, same quality, same organic ingredients, same lab-tested pedigree. They just didn’t get the memo about being round.
Shape has zero effect on how a SCOBY brews. These will ferment just as powerfully, grow baby SCOBYs just as readily, and produce just as delicious a kombucha as their perfectly circular siblings — at a fraction of the price. If you’re just getting started with home brewing, or simply don’t see the point in paying more for a round bit of culture, these are the ones for you.
Each SCOBY will comfortably brew up to 1L per batch and arrives plump, active, and packed in its own starter tea — ready to get straight to work.
As with all living cultures, size, shape and appearance will vary — that’s rather the point with these ones.

Every order comes with printed instructions, and our free brewing guides and Brew Buddy app walk you through looking after your culture step by step.
Live cultures: unpack them as soon as they arrive and start them within a few days. Something not look right? Our Culture Clinic covers the most common worries, or send us a message with a photo and we'll help. See our culture guarantee for how we help, and when we'll replace a culture.
Jars, bottles and equipment: wash in hot soapy water and rinse well before use. Never use bleach, as it can harm your culture.
DELIVERY & RETURNS
Everything is packed fresh to order and sent within 1 to 7 working days (Monday to Thursday) by Royal Mail tracked delivery. Free standard tracked delivery on UK orders over £65: just choose it at checkout. We currently deliver to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only. Delivery information
Changed your mind? Most items can be returned within 14 days. Live cultures, food and drink, and opened health or hygiene items can't be returned for a change of mind, but if anything arrives faulty or damaged, we'll put it right. Returns and refunds
