Classic Ginger Beer Starter Kit
Everything you need to brew probiotic ginger beer at home
Fiery, fizzy, and full of living cultures — homemade ginger beer is one of life's great pleasures, and with a live ginger bug culture it's surprisingly easy to make. This kit gives you everything to get started, including the culture itself.
What's in the kit
- 1x live ginger bug culture (paste)
- 1x 1L glass fermenting jar with lid, cloth and band
- 1x 5L mixing vessel
- 2x 1000ml PET plastic bottles with screw caps (for bottling and carbonating)
- 1x wooden spatula
- Full brewing instructions
Please note: the colour of the PET bottles may vary (clear, green, or brown) depending on stock availability. We do not recommend using glass bottles for the finished ginger beer.
About the ginger bug culture
A ginger bug is a live probiotic starter — a wild ferment of ginger, sugar, and water that captures the naturally occurring yeasts and bacteria found on fresh ginger root. It works like a sourdough starter for drinks: feed it, grow it, and use it to brew naturally carbonated, gut-friendly ginger beer or ginger wine.
The culture lasts indefinitely with regular feeding, doubles with each use, and can be dehydrated for long-term storage. It remains as a paste rather than forming grains — if you're looking for a grain-forming culture, see our Ginger Water Crystals.
Why you'll love it
- Naturally fizzy and probiotic-rich
- Great for adults and kids alike — feeding the bug is half the fun
- A healthier, homemade alternative to shop-bought fizzy drinks
- The bug lasts forever with minimal care
