WHAT ARE SUPERFOODS?
Oxford English Dictionary definition of superfood
A nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being.
Or to put it another way:
Superfoods are foods that provide your body with the maximum amount of nutrition. They offer multiple nutrient, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and polyphenols with minimal calories.
Eating superfoods may reduce the risk of chronic disease, and prolong life.
Superfood is intensely rich in chlorophyll. Chlorophyl is structurally almost identical to hemoglobin in the human red blood cell. Because of this match, human red blood cells eagerly absorb all the oxygen bearing alkalizing mineralizing nutritive properties of chlorophyll-rich plants.
Marvellous Superfood is FULL of chlorophyll-rich plants which may be why when you have just one dose of Marvellous Superfood powder you FEEL instantly energized!
Hemp protein powder is a vegetarian source of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre, chlorophyll and a complete, balanced gluten-free source of all eight essential amino acids.
The essential amino acids found in hemp cannot be produced by the body but are essential for a thriving healthy system. According to www.hemphasis.nethempseed is a complete protein source and the only plant capable of sustaining the human body in the absence of other foods.
Hemp is high in protein but unlike other protein sources it is easily digestible due to the absence of trypsin inhibitors that other protein sources, including soy, contain.
The importance of protein in the diet should not be taken lightly. Protein is the fundamental building block for our muscles. It is needed to build and maintain all the muscles throughout our bodies.
Hemp seeds are not genetically modified. Despite its origin, hempseed does not contain psychoactive compounds!
Spirulina contains a host of natural nutrients including amino acids, vitamins and minerals. It is rich is essential fatty acids which are needed by the body for a number of important metabolic functions.
This tiny aquatic plant offers 60% all-vegetable protein, essential vitamins and phytonutrients such as the antioxidant beta carotene, the rare essential fatty acid GLA, sulfolipids, glycolipids and polysaccharides, it’s also rich in Beta Carotene and Phytonutrients.
Its deep green colour comes from its rainbow of natural pigments - chlorophyll (green), phycocyanin (blue) and carotenoids (orange) - that harvest the sun's energy.
This edible algae has a long history of safe human consumption and over 30 years of safety testing.
Our organic Spirulina is cultivated under controlled conditions that do not allow the growth of other contaminant blue-green algaes commonly found in water.
Chlorella is a fresh water, one-celled blue-green algae that contains: protein, nutrients, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and high levels of plant chlorophyll.
Chlorella helps remove dioxin, lead, mercury and other toxins from the body. The membrane qualities of chlorella can absorb large amounts of these toxins, while at the same time help to build red blood cells in the body.
Nutritionists say that chlorella may help strengthen the immune and nervous system, help regulate the intestines and help the liver and kidneys rid the body of waste products.
Wheat grass helps the body maintains the optimum pH balance. Rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fibre – it energizes and detoxifies the Body.
Specialists report that wheat grass is anti-aging because it promotes cell rejuvenation.
Wheatgrass contains most of the vitamins and minerals that the human body needs to maintain a healthy state. It offers 20 amino acids, several hundred different enzymes not found in other foods and as many as 92 out of 102 possible minerals, vitamins and other important nutrients found in soil. Wheatgrass is loaded with vitamins including: all of the B group vitamins, A, C, E, and K. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc among many others.
Wheatgrass has been shown to contain a lot of elements that are missing in human body cells. These elements include enzymes, hormones, and certain nucleic acids.
Barley grass contains many of the vitamins, minerals, and proteins necessary for optimum bodily functions.
It contains 18 amino acids - amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which are the major constituents of our body and are necessary for the continual cell building, cell regeneration and energy production that are necessary for life.
There are high amounts of vitamins and minerals in barley grass including beta-carotene, folic acid, pantothenic acid, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6 and vitamin C and minerals including: potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorus, manganese and zinc.
Kelp is a rich source of iodine - a trace mineral that is crucial for the healthy functioning of the thyroid gland as well as thyroid hormone production. This large seaweed is also a natural source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E.
Kelp has a high content of natural plant iodine, which is absorbed much more slowly and therefore more safely, than chemical iodine.
Beetroot contains potassium, magnesium and iron as well as vitamins A, B6 and C, and folic acid. It also contain carbohydrates, protein, powerful antioxidants and soluble fibre.
Research has shown that beetroot can help reduce blood pressure as well as its associated risks such as heart attacks and strokes. This is because the high content of nitrates in beetroot produce a gas called nitric oxide in the blood which widens blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. Betacyanin, the pigment that gives beetroot its colour, is also an antioxidant. Antioxidants are believed to help reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, in turn protecting artery walls and reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Beetroot contains folic acid, which is essential for normal tissue growth.
It also contains carotenoids and flavonoids, which help prevent LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol from being oxidised and deposited in the arteries. Beetroot is virtually fat free and low in calories.
