Milder than many sprouting varieties Beetroot sprouts have a light delicious earthy taste and the most fantastic bright colour. They can be used raw in salads or stir frys, 60g is enough to grow approximately 1 tray or 6 punnets of fresh beetroot greens with a growth time of 10-14 days. Whilst these seeds can be grown in sprouters they are more successful in a tray.
From the Middle Ages, beetroot was used as a treatment for a variety of conditions, especially illnesses relating to digestion and the blood. Platina recommended taking beetroot with garlic to nullify the effects of 'garlic-breath'.
Since Roman times, beetroot juice has been considered an aphrodisiac and natural Viagra.
